District Blog

Oriental Beauty Oolong (Bai Hao Wu Long) also known as White Tip: cultivated around Beipu in the Hsin Zhu District of Taiwan.

This is a heavily oxidized oolong (50-70%) that is not roasted. What makes it special is an insect, the leafhopper (Jacobiasca formosana), that eats the leaves. This stems the growth of the leaves and also changes the color of the leaf to a parma-violet tint. After the leaves are dried, the edges turn white where the insect has gnawed on them. Because of the change in chemical composition, the resulting notes are woody and fruity after oxidization. It is possible to count dozens of notes.

The leaves are plucked only in summer, when the insect is active. No pesticides are allowed anywhere in the vicinity because of the value of the leafhopper. In 2006, a Jin (21 oz.) of Oriental Beauty sold for nearly 50,000 Euros!

Do You Know This Handsy Person?

Posted on October 4th, 2018 by Downtown Campbell

Does anyone recognize this handsy person? He's wanted for jewelry theft totalling several thousand dollars from one of our shops. Here's a short surveilance video of the theft happening.

If you know this person or have information that might help the Campbell Police find him, please call the Campbell Police Investigation Unit at 408-871-5190.

You've probably noticed scooters like these scattered around Downtown Campbell lately. The Campbell City Council has not made a decision one way or another on what to do about them, but is expected to do so within a month from now. In the meantime, they're being conditionally allowed if you follow some rules.

The following list is not comprehensive so there may be other things you need to do to keep you and the scooter you're riding in good standing.

  • You must have a drivers license to ride them.
  • Do not ride on the sidewalk.
  • Follow all traffic rules when riding (obey stop signs).
  • No parking directly in front of buildings or walkways.

From what I've heard, the Campbell PD has been lenient so far, but breaking any of these rules could result in a ticket and a significant fine.

Kwench Juice closed earlier this year and recently reopened as Kwench Kreamery and you really must check it out if you haven't. All of their Ice Creams and treats are hand made in small batches.

The most popular item is "rolled ice cream" and is made and mixed in front of you. Check out how it's made in this photo set of the owner, Reena, making their signature hand crafted treat!

Freshly Worn Furniture will be closing their doors at the end of this year and they're in the process of liquidating everything in their inventory. Originally their supply of Debi's DIY Paint wasn't supposed to be part of the deep discounts, but it looks like things have changed and you can now get your hands on whatever stock they have of Debi's DIY Paints at 50% Off!

More Info

As you may have heard, Freshly Worn Furniture is going to be closing this year. They're liquidating store inventory right now, but they won't actually close for good until the end of the year. That's because they'll be using their space to host holiday themed pop-up shops in October, November, and December. If you have a business and you'd like an opportunity to pop-up at Freshly Worn's space in the coming months, please see the following announcement.

BTW, if you're looking for a deal on decor items, everything left in the store aside from paint and supplies is now 50% off while inventory lasts.

I can’t believe my eyes. BIG news for our little shop. Tears of joy are fresh on my face as the opportunity I’ve been hoping & praying for is unfolding. You heard that our building just sold, rents doubled, and to be honest I considered taking a long overdue, semi-permanent vacation... but I surely didn’t want to leave you all without our local childrens boutique if I could still make it happen. We’ve lost too many good ones! Through purpose, perseverance, and a little bit of delusion (or what some may call aspiration) WE ARE NOW...
wait for it...

E-X-P-A-N-D-I-N-G the storefront! We will occupy double the space within our courtyard just as soon as we can get it up and running.

There’s still so much to accomplish, but it’s all happening, & I’m thrilled to share it with you. Spread the news, Stripes x2 is on the way! I’m going to document all our adventures in designing this new space and I’ll need your input!
