Vintage Noise Live at Tessora’s Wine Bar
Tessora’s Wine Bar in Campbell plays host to one of the most compelling musical pairings in the Bay Area, Ed Johnson on guitar and Mike Hallesy on bass for an intimate evening of jazz and bossa nova that proves great music doesn’t need a big stage to leave a lasting impression. Pour something wonderful, find a good seat, and let the night surprise you.
Ed Johnson has spent a lifetime inside Brazilian music not studying it from the outside, but living in it. Born in San Francisco and raised in Palo Alto, he discovered Jobim as a teenager and never looked back. Seven internationally acclaimed recordings later, JazzTimes called him one of the finest Brazilian composers in the world. His guitar sits just behind the beat lush, rhythmic, and unmistakably Brazilian giving every tune its warmth and ease.
Alongside him, Mike Hallesy brings a bass player’s lifetime of experience to the groove a musician whose double bass has shared stages with Larry Vuckovich, Noel Jewkes, Jackie Ryan, and the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest. His lines are authoritative without ever being showy, always in service of the song. Together these two create a sound that is both intimate and deeply satisfying.
