If the pulp life is the life for you, you must check out the monthly Recycle Book Club that meets at Recycle Bookstore in Downtown Campbell. This isn't any ordinary book club. In this book club you also get to meet the authors. Here's their upcoming 2019 schedule.
Author Event: The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell
This event has been canceled.
UPDATE: This event is being postponed due to Covid-19 safety precautions.
Recycle Book Club is pleased to welcome NY Times best selling author Robert Dugoni to our book club meeting in April. He will be coming to sign autographs and discuss his recent novel, The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell.
The book club will meet for half an hour for group discussion at 6:30pm before being joined by the author at 7pm for a talk and book signing session.
Please note: Due to the expected size of the audience, this event will take place down the street in the community room of The Sports Basement at 1875 Bascom Ave. in the Pruneyard Shopping Center, but copies of The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell can be purchased anytime at Recycle Bookstore in Downtown Campbell.
About The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered, buoyed by his mother’s devout faith, his father’s practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends.
Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls.
Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design—especially not the tragedy that caused him to turn his back on his friends, his hometown, and the life he’d always known. Running from the pain, eyes closed, served little purpose. Now, as he looks back on his life, Sam embarks on a journey that will take him halfway around the world. This time, his eyes are wide open—bringing into clear view what changed him, defined him, and made him so afraid, until he can finally see what truly matters.
About the Recycle Book Club
Recycle Book Club meets once a month (sometimes twice) here at Recycle Bookstore to discuss a book-of-the-month, like all book clubs do. The difference is that the author actually comes to the store! After the members have met for 30 minutes (6:30-7:00), the author joins us to answer questions and sign books (7:00-8:00). There are NO requirements to participate. In fact, you don’t even have to read the book!
