Free Flu Shots at Campbell Library

Posted on October 4th, 2017 by Campbell Library

Anyone 18 years or older may stop in for a free flu shot at the library, 1pm-3:30pm on October 5. No appointments necessary.

This is first year of an exciting new partnership. Santa Clara County Library District and Santa Clara County Public Health Department are working together to help people stay healthy during flu season. Nurses from the Public Health Department will be providing the flu shots.

Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone six months of age or older, but is particularly important for those at higher risk of severe influenza, including pregnant women, children under five years of age, adults over the age of 50, and people with certain underlying medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

Pregnant women who get a flu shot not only protect themselves, but also help protect their babies in their first six months when they are still too young to be vaccinated.

For maximum protection, people should get the flu vaccine before flu season begins.

It takes about two weeks after vaccination for the antibodies that protect against the flu to develop in the body.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting a flu vaccine before the end of October, whenever possible.

Liquid Bread Gastropub closed down recently, but don't worry, they'll be back soon after some changes and probably a new name. From the sounds of this article, it appears likely to remain some sort of gastropub. No word on the fate of the dearly missed Bearnaise Burger though.

This article in the San Jose Mercury News already made the rounds a bit recently, but it's too nice of a piece to not pass along. Dominick Guida, the owner of our own The Cruiser Shop and the organizer of the Shiny Side Up Bike Show, was featured prominently in the Mercury News recently. Indeed, his shop is a pretty big deal in a small corner of Downtown Campbell. I've met people who drove hours and bypassed other similar bike shops along the way just so they could get their their accessories and work done at the Cruiser Shop. And speaking of that Bike Show, it's already passed for this year and this year was its 10th anniversary!

The City of Campbell's Summer Concert Series is in full swing and this week's performers are the crowd favorites, the Cocktail Monkeys, returning again by popular demand. It's easy to see why they're so popular. They put on quite a show and nail pop performances from a range of eras. Here's a short medley of some songs they covered in their appearance last year.

Shows are on Thursdays at 6pm throughout the summer at the Orchard City Green (in front of the Ainsley House in Downtown Campbell).
