History Happy Hour: Douglas MacGowan on the McGlincy Murders of 1896
This event has already passed
The Campbell Historical Museum and Ainsley House is excited to present History Happy Hour, a monthly lecture series at the Ainsley House, held February through October. On Friday, July 31, 5:30pm-7:30pm, we'll present a talk by Douglas MacGowan
Douglas MacGowan is the author of three books and numerous articles on 19th century true crime. His latest manuscript, A Silent Man, chronicles the infamous McGlincy murders that took place in Campbell in 1896 when James C. Dunham killed his wife, her family, and two of that family's servants using an axe and two revolvers. The sole survivors were Dunham's 3-week-old son and a farmhand, George Schaible, who had hidden in the barn during the massacre. Although investigators conducted an extensive manhunt throughout entire Santa Clara Valley and beyond, Dunham was never found and the case remains officially open. Dunham's motives are still unknown.
Admission is $15 per person and includes snacks, two drink tickets, and entry into the lower level of the Ainsley House. Ages 21 and older only, please. Reservations are required as seating is limited to 36 people. To register, please visit the Museum’s webpage.
