Event Details

The Downtown Campbell Business Association is pleased to present the Third Annual Big Bands & BBQ Festival! All afternoon and into the evening, enjoy delicious BBQ, live music, dancing, vintage cars, gourmet food booths, professional cooking demos, an amateur BBQ cook-off, a watermelon eating contest, and kids' games in the heart of Downtown Campbell.

Our headline entertainment is the incomparable Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, so put on your dancing shoes!

Big Bands & BBQ Festival Amateur Cook-Off

Come watch community BBQ teams in action as they compete for $1,500 in cash prizes at the Big Bands & BBQ Festival First Annual Amateur Cook-Off. The Cook-Off Stage and team grills will be set up in the parking lot of Oddfellows Hall, located at the corner of East Campbell Avenue and North First Street.

Eight celebrity judges will be tasting food every hour at the Cook-Off Stage. The judging times are as follows:

  • 2pm: Open Category
  • 3pm: Chicken
  • 4pm: Ribs
  • 5pm: Tri-Tip
  • 6pm: Grand Champion (announcement made at Festival Main Stage)

Watermelon Eating Contest at Big Bands & BBQ

All all invited to complete in the First Annual Big Bands & BBQ Watermelon Eating Contest, taking place in the parking lot next to Cardiff Lounge. The object is to be the first contestant to finish a quarter of a watermelon down to the rind. Any style of eating is allowed as long as the watermelon is consumed (please see contest guidelines). Prize ribbons will be awarded to the contest winner in each age group.

The contest will be divided into four age divisions competing at 4 different times: ages 6-9 (2:15pm); ages 10-13 (3:15pm); ages 14-17 (4:15pm); and ages 18 and up (5:15pm). Participants must arrive at the Watermelon Contest Booth and submit a completed entry form no later than 5 minutes prior to start time. Space is limited; participation is first come, first served.

Rock n' Roll Stage:

  • 3pm - 4:15pm: Redwood
  • 4:45pm - 6pm: The B Stars
  • 6:30pm - 7:45pm: Lil' Pea & the 3rd Degree
